tweed valley CANOE TRAIL

Covering a 30-mile stretch of the majestic River Tweed, the first official canoe trail in the south of Scotland launches in spring 2024. Discover everything you need to plan your adventure on this iconic river – and to experience all that the wider area has to offer.

Starting just minutes from Dawyck Botanic Garden in the picturesque village of Stobo and finishing just beyond Sir Walter Scott’s magnificent Abbotsford near Galashiels, this wonderfully scenic canoe trail offers tranquillity and adventure in equal measure.

Journeying along one of Scotland’s great rivers, paddlers of all abilities can immerse themselves in the area’s rich cultural history, while also experiencing the diverse landscapes and plentiful wildlife found along the way. From an imposing castle perched high above the river to the attractions, galleries and eateries in the lively towns of Peebles and Innerleithen, the trail connects those who love to explore with the people, places and stories that have shaped this striking part of the Scottish Borders. The trail is designed to be paddled over two to three days – allowing time to pause along the way – although strong paddlers may be able to power along in a single day.
