wild about running
Caitlin MacGregor manages Go Ape, a thrilling treetop challenge at Glentress. When she’s not high up in the forest, she’s out running on the trails with four-legged friend, Uilly. She shares their favourite trail running spot that’s perfect for the season.

Day job: Site Manager, Go Ape Peebles
How long lived in the Tweed Valley? 9 years
Specialist subject? Trail running
Favourite running trails for springtime? My favourite spring runs are when it’s still frosty on the ground but it’s a bluebird sky and you can feel the heat on your face. When it’s warm enough (just!) to break out your shorts and head into the hills. Running out of the back door and up Cademuir Forest and back along the River Tweed from Manor is the go-to day off for me.
What makes it so special? We are so lucky in the Tweed Valley, really spoilt for choice. I love all of the different terrain but the visible history while you are out running at Cademuir Forest makes it extra special. Bonus points if you spot the old golf course holes on Morning Hill!
Who would you most love to spend a day on the trails with and why? My dog Uilly, the joy in her face every time we head out makes me realise how lucky we are.
Dream trail running destination if ever enticed away from the Tweed Valley? Canada. I’m always drawn to the mountains and the weather, snow and sun!

Get a taste of Caitlin’s favourite trail for yourself at this year’s Cademuir Rollercoaster. A well-established fixture on the Scottish hill race calendar, it’s an enjoyably challenging race for seasoned hill runners – and fit novices or newcomers alike.
And put on your running shoes and explore more of the Tweed Valley Forest Park this season. We heartily recommend a stop-off at Go Ape Peebles (Glentress Forest), for a whizz down Scotland’s highest zip wire!
