Easy riders

There’s nothing quite like messing about on bikes. And there’s nowhere quite like the Tweed Valley when it comes to getting started on two wheels. From forest trails and beginner single-track to gentle riverside paths, there’s something for even the very youngest riders!

Glentress for all

Scotland’s most inclusive trail centre, Glentress Forest has it all: a lower green route to help build confidence, flowy blue routes that always put a smile on faces and taster trails of all levels for those who want to work on technique or just style it up. The fun starts from the Glentress Gateway at the base of the hill, with a multi-user trail providing access for all. Bike rental is available from Alpine Bikes, plus excellent coaching and skills courses for all ages from the likes of Ridelines and Dirt School. Soon, the youngsters will be teaching the grown-ups a thing or two!

Tweed Valley Railway Path

A low-level route with little or no climbing, the Tweed Valley Railway Path links the towns of Peebles, Innerleithen and Walkerburn – with Eddleston to the north too. Following the route of a former railway line, and hugging the River Tweed for much of the way, this multi-use path is ideal for families and recreational cyclists with plenty of picnic spots and pit-stops along the way. The path has links to the mountain biking hotspots of Glentress and Innerleithen, each home to a wide selection of cafes and restaurants.

Cardrona Pump Track

Located at the edge of Cardrona village on the Innerleithen side of the Tweed Valley Railway Path, the Cardrona Pump Track is a popular hang-out for riders young and old (and some who should probably know better!). You won’t want to pass by without having a shot, so be sure to factor in extra time if cycling the whole of the railway path.
